As someone who has been diagnosed with an endocrine disorder, it is important for me to remove all products from my home that contain hormone-disrupting ingredients. I love a glossy manicure, but stopped using nail polish altogether because I could not find any brands on the commercial market that I felt I could trust. I was recently introduced to Breukelen Polished by a friend who stopped by their table at the 2016 Essence Music Festival. (Hey, Natalie!)
Breukelen Polished (pronounced Brooklyn) was founded by two best friends Ariel and Tauaishu, who have refused to sacrifice their health for beauty. Each nail polish color is named after something indicative of their Brooklyn roots. Best of all, the line is vegan and 5-free. What exactly is 5-free do you ask?
The top 5 ingredients found in commercial nail polish brands are formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, dibutyl phthalate, toluene and camphor. Each of these 5 little nasty ingredients are known carcinogens. Breukelen does not include any of these ingredients which makes their polish a safer option than some of the traditional faves.Looking for safer nail polish options? @breukelenpolis1 has what you need, what, what you need Click To Tweet
Although Breukelen Polished is a safer option I want to be transparent with you that I reserve nail polish for special occasions. Because all nail polish contains some ingredients that are not ingestible, I try to limit my exposure.
I prefer darker nail polish shades on my hands, and lighter colors on my toes. “The Bleuprint” was my favorite shade. This is my perfect shade for the office, or for a romantic date night. I love the high shine and long lasting, color payoff of each of these polishes. And can we talk about their great customer service? I received my order within 2 business days. I definitely would recommend this brand to anyone seeking a safer nail polish option.
This was truly “dopeness in a bottle”. Breukelen, they go hard.
