Sunlighten Infrared Sauna – Detox and heal from within. New to The Still Point as of November 1, 2017!
I began my appointment in The Still Point Spa’s infrared sauna. If you plan on coming in for other services, it is recommended that you schedule the sauna before your other treatments. While traditional saunas generate heat by circulating hot air, the infrared heat rays – usually in the 110-130°F range – warm you directly, penetrating up to 45mm into the body, where it can work on deep tissue and organs. Infrared heat is very gentle and produces a deep, detoxifying sweat at the cellular level, where most toxins reside. This is perfect for those who want to boost immunity, stimulate collagen production, improve circulation, lower blood pressure and relieve pain.
If you are pregnant, have hemophilia, fever, heat insensitivity, or history of seizures you should not use the sauna. Additionally, certain medications, cardiovascular conditions, chronic conditions, joint injury, and implants may impact your ability to use the sauna. Always ask your physician before using the sauna if any of these apply.
The recommended infrared sauna session is 40 minutes. The Still Point Spa requires the first three sessions to be only 20 minutes in length for you to acclimate to the heat and experience.

Although I have combination-oily skin, I opted for the Oxygen Lift Facial, which vows to get you exfoliated, illuminated and hydrated! My esthetician, Angela, informed me that my skin thirsty! (She said it much more eloquently.) I wondered how this could be when it feels like I am always guzzling water. Angela explained that sometimes, our skin needs a little extra help.
- Oxygen – instantly brightens skin, speeds up circulation and healing, fights toxins
- Fruit Enzymes – brings nutrition to the skin
- Plant-derived stem cells – leaves skin luminous
- Enzymatic botanicals – rejuvenates the skin
My esthetician of over 6 months at The Still Point Spa’s Columbia, MD location recently moved out of state. 🙁 I am so happy to have found a new esthetician at Takoma Park and to also try some new services. Have you ever been to The Still Point Spa? Let me know in the comment section below.
